  2. In same tune as mentioned to `quickbib`, the changelog should read `python-doi2bib3 (0.4.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium` because it is about the first package of `doi2bib` version 0.4.0 to be filed to Debian. If there were a subsequent patch applied in the package _to Debian_ which isn't present in the upstream repository still running as version 0.4.0, you could then prepare a package 0.4.0-2.

  3. The first package I uploaded had lintian warnings (see below), which is why I had to bump the version number. Now that version 0.4.0-1 exists in Debian mentors, I cannot use the same version number anymore. What should I do?
    Archisman Panigrahi at Nov. 29, 2025, 3:26 a.m.
  4. `3` in the version string `0.4.0-3`, `4` in `0.4.0-4` in file `debian/changelog` might be sensible if Debian's repositories already distribute `0.4.0-2` (for the former), or `0.4.0-3` (for the later) in the testing branch (because once about each two years it becomes stable). This counter `3`, or `4` has no relationship with "Upload #1" , "Upload #2", etc visible on this page.

I speculate `3` and `4` could be the result of using `dch -i` to _increment_ the changelog. There however equally are the flags `-a` to append a new item to the bullet list of the current version in this file, and `-e` to freely edit the content of file `debian/changelog` in the default text editor.

  5. For comparison, see the current work in <https://mentors.debian.net/package/fspy/> -- multiple uploads (each with its number), but each under the very same line in `debian/changelog` reading `fspy (0.1.1-6) unstable; urgency=medium`. One of the goals of the mentors page is to provide a site for the incremental training. And once the traffic lights are green, you send out a RFS.
