  2. While I agree an upstream contact (to d/copyright) is optional, it could be helpful for the insight (both the technical, as well the historic perspective - why x was implemented one, but not another way). Back in the day, I found it helpful for `ruby-mdl` (<https://github.com/markdownlint/markdownlint/issues/310>). For the same reasoning, I filed an issue to the upstream repository, cf. <https://github.com/dougn/python-plantuml/issues/26>.

I recognize there is some rest / pause in maintenance in the upstream repository of `plantuml`. Maybe it is for good, maybe it is temporary. Matt Swain's `pubchempy` (<https://github.com/mcs07/pubchempy>) equally witnessed a dormant phase -- between 2017 and fall 2025, no PRs filed were admitted, nor work in the blessed repository took place. Uploading the package to Debian could be the proverbial kiss of life restarting the work in the upstream repository.

This is only a note which is why I leave it as non-delaying "ready".
