You might as well switch to autopkgtest-pkg-pybuild to make your life easier. I tested this locally and the tests are passing. See autodep(8).

BTW, I don't know if upstream is still active but running setup.py directly is deprecated. Maybe it is worth it to open a report upstream to switch to a non-deprecated method of building the package.

You could also add yourself to debian/copyright. This will silence the experimental "update-debian-copyright" lintian diagnostic.

Besides that, everything looks great!
