§5 Navigating and the View menu

This section describes how to zoom and navigate the map, and the commands on the View menu.

Zooming

Zoom In and Zoom Out change the zoom in steps, while Zoom In 1% (Ctrl+Shift+=) and Zoom Out 1% (Ctrl+Shift+-) change it one percent at a time. The Zoom To submenu jumps to a fixed zoom: 50%, 100%, or 200%.

Reset Zoom (Ctrl+0) returns to 100%, and Fit to Window (Ctrl+Shift+F) zooms so the whole map is visible. The current zoom appears on the right of the status bar. Zoom is limited to a sensible range rather than continuing without bound.

The mouse wheel and trackpad

Turning the mouse wheel zooms in and out, centered on the pointer. Hold Ctrl while turning the wheel to zoom in finer steps.

On a trackpad, a two-finger scroll pans the map instead of zooming; hold Ctrl and scroll to zoom.

Panning

Besides the scrollbars, you can pan by dragging with the middle mouse button. The arrow keys also scroll the view when nothing is selected, described in §13 (Keyboard reference).

Other view options

Reset Origin (Home) recenters the view on the map's origin.

Two checkable options control what is drawn: Show Grid and Show Text (Ctrl+F4). Snap to Grid controls whether room positions snap to the grid when you drag, nudge, or resize a room. A final item, Mini Map, shows or hides the Mini Map dock described in §1 (Introduction and the main window).
