This section describes how to draw and edit connections between
rooms, and the commands on the Connections
menu.
The Edit menu's Connect Mode
(C) turns connect mode on and off. While
it is on, dragging from one room to another draws a connection
between them, and you cannot move rooms. As you point at a room,
the docking port nearest the cursor is highlighted to show where
the connection will attach; a plain click draws nothing, so drag to
draw.
The Edit menu's Add Connected Room
submenu instead creates a new room already joined to the selected
room. It offers the eight compass directions - North, South, East, West, North-East, North-West,
South-East, and South-West - and Up,
Down, In, and
Out, which also label the new
connection.
Double-clicking a connection opens its Connection Properties dialog. Its fields are the
connection's Flow, Style, Color, Name, Description, and its
Start text, Mid
text, and End text, together with a
Quick label and the door options
Has door, Lockable,
Openable, Locked,
and Open.
Select a connection to show its handles: a solid dot at each
docked end and a hollow dot at each free waypoint. Drag an end onto
another room to re-dock it there; it attaches at the docking port
nearest to where you drop it, so you can choose the exact side of
the room. Drag an end away from any room to detach it.
Right-clicking a connection offers Edit...,
Add Waypoint Here, and Delete.
Five commands act on the selected connection: Reverse (V), Rotate Source Port ([),
Rotate Target Port (]), Insert Room on Connection,
and Make Orthogonal. A sixth, Delete Room's Connections (Ctrl+D), acts on a single selected room and removes
every connection attached to it.
Make Orthogonal reshapes the selected
connection into right-angle segments by adding bend points between
its ends, so the line runs horizontally and vertically instead of
diagonally. It applies to a connection whose two ends dock to a
north, south, east, or west port; a connection that uses a diagonal
port is left unchanged.
The Line Style submenu sets the line to
Solid or Dashed
(T), and the Flow
submenu sets it to Two-way or One-way (A).
The Label submenu labels the two ends of
the connection at once: Up / Down
(U), Down / Up
(D), In / Out
(I), and Out / In
(O).
Plain (P)
resets a connection to a plain, two-way, unlabeled solid line.
The New Connection Defaults submenu has
two toggles, Dashed and One-way, that set the style and flow given to
connections drawn from then on.
