This section describes how to create, edit, and style rooms, and
the commands on the Rooms menu.
Add Room on the Edit menu (Insert) places a new room at the center of the current
view. The new room's number is reported in the status bar.
Right-clicking an empty part of the canvas offers Add Room Here, which places the room under the pointer,
along with Paste, Select
All, Map Settings..., and
Application Settings....
The Edit menu's Add Connected Room
submenu instead adds a room already joined to the selected room in
a chosen direction; see §3 (Working
with connections).
Drag a room to move it, and select a room then drag one of the
eight square handles on its outline to resize it. Positions and
sizes snap to the grid unless Snap to Grid
is turned off (see §5); in connect mode
rooms cannot be moved.
Double-clicking a room opens its Room
Properties dialog. The dialog has two tabs, General and Appearance.
The General tab holds the room's Name,
Subtitle, Region,
References room, Description, Objects, and
Objects position, along with the
Custom offset, Dark, Start room, and
End room checkboxes. Checking Custom offset enables the Offset
right and Offset down spinners,
which shift the objects list from its Objects
position anchor.
The Appearance tab controls the room's Shape, Border style,
Fill color, and Second
fill (with a Second fill location),
the Hand-drawn edges and Make all corners equal checkboxes with the four
Corner: top-left, top-right, bottom-left, and
bottom-right spinners, and the colors used
for its border, name, subtitle, and objects.
Two Rooms-menu commands edit the selected room without opening
the dialog: Rename... (F2) changes the name, and Change
Region... (Shift+F2) changes the
region.
Right-clicking a room offers Edit... and
Delete. Copy Color
(Ctrl+Alt+C) copies the selected room's
colors and Paste Color (Ctrl+Alt+V) applies them to other selected rooms. When
a room references another (its References
room field), Ctrl-clicking it selects and reveals the room
it points to.
Three commands set whether the selected rooms are dark:
Toggle Darkness (K), Force Dark (Ctrl+K), and Force Lighted
(Ctrl+Shift+K).
Set as Start Room (Ctrl+F5) and Set as End Room
(Shift+F5) mark the selected room.
The Shape submenu offers four shapes:
Square (Ctrl+H),
Rounded (Ctrl+R),
Ellipse (Ctrl+E),
and Octagonal (Ctrl+8).
A rounded room's four corner radii start at 15 and can be set anywhere from 1 to 30 in the Room Properties dialog; values outside that range in a map file are brought back into it when the map is opened.
When rooms overlap, Bring to Front and
Send to Back on the Rooms menu move the
selected rooms above or below all the others. The order is saved
with the map.
Join Rooms (J)
draws a connection between exactly two selected rooms.
The Swap (two rooms) submenu exchanges
one aspect of two selected rooms: Swap
Objects (W), Swap
Names (Ctrl+W), Swap Formats (Shift+W), and
Swap Regions (Alt+W).
Delete Selection (Del) on the Edit menu removes the selected rooms.
